You might like to try some Meditation –how and why.

Meditation is a very powerful tool.  Different meditation techniques claim different benefits acquired in four levels:emotional –mental –physical and spiritual.

Scientific research has shown that meditation has many great benefits such as:

  • Slowing down the aging process
  • Alleviating pain
  • Improving sleep
  • Lowering serum cholesterol level
  • Reducing bacteria levels in saliva thereby fewer cavities
  • Increasing blood flow to brain making us smarter
  • Improving memory
  • and many more…

As the mind quiets down, our sagging spirits are revived and we feel more in control of our lives. It is a method to internalize the mind away from our busy thoughts to achieve a deep state or relaxation.

Meditation has many different uses and it can be applied into practically every aspect of your life. Children do it naturally. Have you ever watched a child so absorbed in play that they aren’t even aware of anything else?

Olive oil (active component oleocanthal and rich in oleic acid) has been shown to reduce blood pressure, optimise cholesterol levels, provide anti-inflammatory benefits, minimise overgrowths of candida and helps to reduce free radicals and inflammation (thus cell damage) which in turn assists in the prevention of cancer. Choose an extra virgin olive oil that has not passed a year since it’s manufacturing date. When using it for cooking, the lower price virgin or extra virgin oils are fine Store it in a dark glass bottle or metal container.

Tomato Sauce contains carotenoid called lycopene. For best absorption of the lycopene,it should be cooked with fats. Men who eat more lycopene have a lower incidence of prostate cancer.

Wonder Foods from Each Food Category

How about tweaking the food pyramid idea to give a diet that is nutrient dense and also energy saving. Put fruit and vegetables at the bottom of the pyramid to encourage you to eat a lot more of these rich-nutrient foods than any other food category.

The tweaked order is as follows:

1. Vegetables and Fruit –eat mostly from this section
2. Protein and Carbohydrates –eat a moderate amount from this section
3. Fats –this category is still important for essential nutrients but eat only a minimal amount from this section.
4. Treats and pleasure foods- eat only a small amount and simply to give you pleasure. Chose wisely as some treat foods are better than others.

Joy

I came across a beautiful poem and at the onset of the silly season;I want to share it with you.  I have changed it ever so slightly to suit the sentiment that I wish to convey.

I want to know if you can be
with joy
Mine or your own,
If you can dance with abandon
And let the ecstasy fill you to the
Tips of your fingers and toes.
Resist cautioning yourself
To be careful
To be realistic
To remember the limitations of being human
Simply chose to allow to feel joy.

Joy slips in during a feel good movie or sharing a special moment with people close to you. It brings optimism and a warm emotion of feeling deeply satisfied. You even feel so happy that you feel your heart might burst open with happiness …then for no reason at all the joy is gone. The emptiness that follows can lead to a deeper dissatisfaction then before.

What then is the answer to maintaining a balance of happiness and joy in your life?

Optimism is the answer as it is a choice that you can make. Chose to focus on positive thoughts and brush aside the negative ones.

Recognise and applaud yourself when things are going well.  Choose to accept the times when things are not going well but BE EMPOWERED to choose and live all life experiences –both good and bad. The experience of life is a joy itself.  Honouring your choices in that life experience is a step in the right direction towards joy.

The Importance of Water

Food and water are our life source.

We need Carbon,Hydrogen,Oxygen and Nitrogen in the form of food and water in order to survive.  We are undergoing phenomenal cell turnover at all times and the tiny Mitochondria in our body are working very hard in each cell to produce energy.

One of the unfortunate waste products of our body processes is CO2.  When CO2 is dissolved in water it forms Carbonic Acid.  If we drink water that is infused with Magnesium Bicarbonate – this neutralizes and reduces the CO2 in our body, which has the ability to slow ageing.

Magnesium bicarbonate infused water might not be in easy to come by BUT the quality of water that we drink makes a huge difference to our general health and well-being.

It is important to drink filtered water or a good source of bottled water.  However for optimal hydration using tap water, simply mix approx 30% apple or pear juice to 70% water.  This is especially useful in hot weather
or when exercising.

Tissue salts such,as Nat Mur and Nat Sulph are very helpful for hydration as well and these are available from most good chemists.

Follow your own signals and drink when you are thirsty for a happy hydrated body.

A Healthy Thyroid for Good Health

The thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland that sits in the neck,in front of the windpipe.  It is only a small flap of flesh but it is very important in maintaining good health.

It produces a hormone called Thyroxine, which affects every tissue in the body.  It is the energy gland of the body and controls metabolism mainly but also digestion, circulation, immune function, hormone balance and emotions.

It is controlled by the pituitary gland, which in turn is directed by chemical signals from the Hypolathamus gland.  The Hypolathamus gland is in the brain and monitors hormone levels in the blood stream.

Under activeOveractive
Hypoactive Symptoms (Under)Hyperactive Symptoms (Over)
Also known as Hashiomoto’s diseaseAlso known as Grave’s disease
TOO LITTLE THYROXINETOO MUCH THYROXINE

Both imbalances are known as “Auto-immune disorders”as the body ‘s immune system has put the thyroid into either overdrive or has wiped it out.

It tends to affect women in their middle-life and sometimes too the elderly. It is surmised that there are probably genetic factors that predispose a person to the condition.

Here are some of the symptoms:

HypoactiveHyperactive
Dry,cold skin

Feeling cold
Swelling of the neck

Depression

Slow pulse

Hair loss

Brittle fingernails

Heavy menstruation

Constipation

Weight gain

High cholesterol

Tiredness

Yeast infections

Recurring infections

Hot,sweaty skin

Feeling hot
Swelling of the neck

Nervous,irritable and anxious

Fast pulse,Palpitations

Hair loss

Soft fingernails

Light or non-existent menstruation

Frequent bowel movements

Weight loss

Increased appetite

Bulging eyes

Premature grey hair

Loss of skin pigment

Insomnia

Once an under active thyroid is detected it can continue to decline, whereas with an overactive thyroid –the condition can come and go.  Therefore there are very different treatments for each condition.

If you have some of the above symptoms –ask your Doctor for a blood test to check your Thyroid function so that you can be aware of the performance of your thyroid and take appropriate action if necessary.

Iodine levels also control the activity of the thyroid,as iodine is an essential for the production of Thyroxine. A good source of Iodine is table salt (to which it has been added).

Alternative health practitioners can also assist in helping with each condition.

Chakra balancing can be of help as the Throat chakra is connected indirectly to the thyroid and the hormones that it produces.  Chakras that also need to be taken into account are the Base chakra and Sacral chakra. An energy worker or
Holistic Kinesiologist will be able to help balance the chakras.

Myrrh,Spruce or Blue Tansy Oil tapped on to the Thyroid regularly is said to be helpful in Hyperthyroidism.

Myrtle or Ledum Oil tapped on to the Thyroid regularly is said to be helpful in Hypothyroidism.

Ensure that you drink water that is free of chlorine as chlorine prevents the absorption of iodine.  Use an activated carbon filter or let water stand unsealed in a container before drinking.

I have heard that there is a connection between excessive soy milk consumption and an under active thyroid. So moderation is the best rule here.

You yourself can do some visualization work –visualize your Hypothalamus gland sending out just the right amount of chemical signals to the Pituitary gland, which in turn tells the thyroid gland to produce just the right amount of Thyroxine for your body’s requirements.  If it helps –find a picture of these gland locations in a Biology reference book.

Keep well and stay informed.

The Little Book of Healing for Children

My guides have been very persistent in urging me to write this book.

It is in production, but here is a snippet for your enjoyment:

Introduction

What is amazing about you? It is not just how much you achieve daily, but also the potential that you might achieve in your lifetime.  I am sure that you want to be the happiest, healthiest, and best that you can be.

You are special, and I came up with the idea of “The Little Book of Healing”to help you realise that you are special, safe, and loved.

The motivation for me to write this book is to help you get the most out of your life.  You are not alone in experiencing both “happy and sad”times.  I asked my own two children what mattered most to them.  “Feeling worthy”and “Happiness”were at the top of their list.

This book aims to be a fun and nurturing tool to bring about feelings of calm, peace and self-esteem.  I hope to inspire you to become interested enough to let this book help you in your journey of life.

Other areas I hope to empower you in are to being able to overcome fear, being able to let go,being able to feel safe, being able to give and receive unconditional love, and to build your emotional strength.  It is not necessary for you to have a spiritual belief except to be open to the idea that we are all essentially “of spirit.”

The book is split into three easy to read sections:“Tools for health and happiness,”“Things to make and do,”and “Did you know that?”

I hope you enjoy reading it and learn some ways to improve your health along the way.

Allergies and a list of Culprit Foods that can trigger them

Allergies can be responsible for:  asthma,sinus,hay-fever,eczema,psoriasis,rashes,itchy skin, arthritis, constipation, indigestion, headache, migraine, chronic fatigue, irritable bowel, yeast overgrowth, excess mucous and flatulence.

Many people today suffer from allergies. Allergies are accumulative and a reaction may not take place for up to four days. Eating the wrong foods can aggravate most health problems.  It is often the case that people crave the very foods that they are allergic to.

Contact with allergens increases inflammatory mediators in the blood, which then inflames tissue in any part of the body.

  • In the joints it can cause arthritic pains.
  • In the respiratory tract it can cause sinus, asthma, and excess mucous.
  • In the nervous system it can cause headache, migraine, depression and tiredness.
  • In the skin it can cause rashes, eczema, psoriasis and hives.

Below is a list of foods that can be involved in an allergic response.

A bit about Karma

Karmic strings pull the course of life winding;

Willy-nilly one finds oneself facing a juncture.

Pleasant scenery glides through eyes to vanish.

At the fateful moment earth turns up to heaven.

by Yutang Lin

Before birth, our soul resides in the Fohatic Energy Pool of Existence (Akashic Records). It is here that the decision to incarnate starts and Pre-Birth Council starts the process of aligning us with all the relevant information from the pool that is necessary for our next incarnation.

Our Karma includes past life experiences, people and new information necessary to assist us with our life path. It also incorporates details of our family structure,as well as aligning us with our soul mates and twin souls with whom we continue to work with through our Karma.

It is with these people that we have Karmic Strings.  Some of these strings still hold unresolved conflict and we carry these forward to the new groups of people that we come across.

In life,we have the free will and the ability to modify ourselves.  We can change our strong links with those that we are Karmic-ally bound to and we can release these strings for future incarnations and the remainder of our present lives.

A Kinesiology balance enables us to do that and to move on gracefully with undesirable relationships that have been formed.
