It is this time of year that we start counting the days till Spring. If you have been unlucky enough to get the flu or a bad cold then you may find this newsletter helpful.
Sinusitis is one of the most uncomfortable feelings associated with a heavy cold or allergies. Symptoms vary and include:a blocked nose,thick green mucus,cheeks sore to touch,pain and headache.
Traditional remedies include nasal sprays,decongestants,antibiotics for infections,inhaling steam and salt-water irrigation. These can be effective but sinus problems have a habit of lingering on.
I came across an alternative method through a Qi Gong teacher.
Did you know that our nostrils automatically switch which side inhales and which side exhales? Yes –they switch approximately every 7 – 10seconds.
This is an important tool for the body to keep in balance. In Traditional Chinese Medicine it restores balance of Yin and Yang. In Kinesiology it is called Ionisation as +ve and –ve sides are kept in balance.
SINUS CLEARING ACTION
Put your 2 thumbs in front of you. With a thumbnail tip stimulate the base thumbnail corners of the other thumb. Do this once both for thumbs.
Next place the thumbs side by side and roll the nails over each other so that either side of the nails touch on both sides. REPEAT this 10 times.
Next use the thumb knuckles to run up each side of the nose,pressing quite hard. Do both sides at the same time.
Once you reach the eye socket,use your knuckles to push gently into the base of the bony eye socket.
Then run the knuckles back down the side of the nose and push the knuckles gently into the top lip at the corners of the nose.
REPEAT this procedure 8 times.
Next block your left nostril with a finger and breath in deeply through the right nostril.
Hold in the breath briefly while you block the right nostril with a finger and breath out through the left nostril.
Swap by then keeping the right nostril blocked and breath in deeply through the left nostril.
Hold in the breath briefly while you again block the left nostril and breath out through the right nostril.
REPEAT this nose blocking sequence 6 times.
Do this ACTION PLAN regularly when you are feeling troubled by sinus problems. Some people have reported a release of thick green mucus after a day or two. If you don’t try it you will never know.
