Depression and “the Blues”seem to be on the rise. Our modern society puts enormous pressure on us –whether it is to perform in order to maintain employment,or daunting mortgages and payments that need to be met. Help from our family network is also diminishing as we now often live in varying parts of the world.
Many of the common conditions for which traditional doctors prescribe also have a psychological aspect of Mind and
Emotions. For example, one in four people in advanced Countries suffer from depression at some point in their lives. Many others are hit by panic and anxiety attacks.
If these underlying problems are left untreated, these can go on to become the root cause of other common
complaints such as migraines, high blood pressure, unexplained pains and digestive problems.
So how can ‘Holistic’Therapies help?
‘Holistic’comes from the Greek word “whole”. It means that the whole person is treated –body, mind and spirit. For example a Doctor might prescribe Paracetamol and suggest plenty of rest for flu. A Holistic Practitioner however would look to deal with what caused the sickness in the first place. The patient’s lifestyle, diet, energy levels and any mental problems such as stress or grief would be examined. By dealing with ALL of these, the aim is to make the person stronger and more able to resist illness in the future. It combines Eastern and Western wisdom.
I have two children and juggle motherhood with work and home. My passion is Holistic Kinesiology and I believe that it came to me at a time when I needed it most.
I was struggling with Post Natal Depression after the birth of my second child. I was in denial for a long time and was having difficulty holding myself together. Finally and quite by chance,I stumbled across a Holistic Practitioner specializing in Kinesiology. The practitioner used muscle testing to get below the surface of my depression symptoms to find the true cause of my imbalance.
What I witnessed and felt, opened my mind up to the extraordinary possibilities achievable through this Holistic
approach. I was carrying around a lot of baggage and redundant beliefs and my high stress and anxiety levels were doing a good job at masking the very real depression.
While I also then sought help from a Doctor and was prescribed medication,I feel my recovery was far quicker
combining it with a Holistic Approach. During sessions,I was able to make some major lifestyle changes on the road to a happier fulfilled life.
I later enrolled to study Holistic Kinesiology myself and I am enjoying facilitating others in their
healing as well as finding a newfound inner peace along the way.
So next time you have just left the Doctor;have a think what else you can do to compliment the Doctor’s advice
to help yourself.
